Brandon Balderrama | Stylist
A Southern California native, Brandon Balderrama grew up in the Los Angeles punk scene. “I was the one my friends would come to for their mohawks. I always had really big extravagant hair, so it just made sense to do it for a living,” he said.
Brandon earned his cosmetology license in 2005 at Newberry School of Beauty in Granada Hills, California. He then moved to San Francisco and worked as a stylist at Edo Salon, which included travel to New York for straight razor haircut training. He also worked as an educator and was trained with Bumble and Bumble techniques.
After returning to Los Angeles in 2010, Brandon attended the Academy of Barbering Arts in Northridge. There he earned an additional professional credential, his barbering license, in order to accomodate the classic “shave and a haircut.” His specialties include short straight razor haircuts and clean shaves, as well as bobs and extreme transformation haircuts (e.g. punk). He describes his style as visually organic, as he customizes his approach to best suit each client’s unique style and hair characteristics.
Having noticed Primrose Organics Salon in passing, Brandon stopped in to drop off a resume. “The energy I felt when I walked in, it was like it was meant to be,” he said. The salon’s mission fits well with Brandon’s own goal to live a healthy and eco-friendly lifestyle.
In his free time Brandon enjoys playing and writing music, punk, boxing, and spending time with his fiance and their two fluffy cats.
